What are the credentials of the math tutors at Portland Math Tutor, LLC?
Drew Laiche received a master’s degree in teaching and has been a licensed teacher in Oregon since 2010. Drew has a teaching endorsement in Advanced Mathematics.

What age groups or grades do you provide math tutoring for?
At Portland Math Tutor, LLC, we specialize in tutoring math to middle, high school, and college students.

How do we start the online session?
Each family (whether one or more students) will have their own private Zoom meeting url. To begin a session, students simply navigate to that url in a browser and the meeting starts as web-based in your browser or in a desktop app.

How do we access the online whiteboards?
After starting the Zoom meeting, the tutor will send a link for that day’s whiteboard. Students and parents can access all archived whiteboards in the shared Google Drive folder that is provided for all students.
Do you do any assessments or placement tests?
We use IXL math online for placement test, assessments, and progress monitoring. This allows us to set focused goals and to track student growth effectively. Parents can opt to receive periodic email updates on student progress.

How can I book a math tutoring session at Portland Math Tutor, LLC?
To start you can fill out a contact form HERE. Drew will get back in touch right away. We start by getting a background on your student’s experience, needs, and goals. An initial session is scheduled, and if the process works for parents and the student, we go ahead and schedule ongoing sessions.

How do you do scheduling?
Scheduling and billing are done on a monthly basis. We will get in touch towards the end of the month to finalize a schedule for the following month.

How does billing work?
After finalizing schedules, invoices are sent via email on the 1st of the month. Invoices can be paid with credit card, debit card, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or ACH bank transfer.

Can I change or cancel a booked tutoring session?
Once confirmed, session times are reserved in our tutoring schedule and will not be given to another client. As such, rescheduling sessions is only possible if given at least 24 hours’ notice and will be charged a $10 fee. No refunds are given for canceling a session with less than 24 hours’ notice.

For which grade levels do you offer math tutoring services?
We generally offer one-on-one online tutoring sessions for middle school, high school, and college. However, we can start tutoring for students in as early as 5th grade.

What math subjects do your tutors specialize in?
Drew specializes in all areas of middle and high school mathematics. This includes subjects like Pre-Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and IB Math, as well as math classes following the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

What kind of resources or materials do you provide for math tutoring?
Practice Material: Each tutoring session comes with supporting guided notes and practice material in printable PDF format with answer keys for use after the tutoring sessions.
Whiteboards: We also use online whiteboards that are archived and available for students and/or parents to reference after the tutoring session.
IXL.com: All clients can opt to receive a free IXL.com account that provides progress monitoring and additional online learning resources.

How long is each tutoring session?
Tutoring sessions are typically 1 hour long. However, we do offer a 45-minute session if a shorter session is desired.
