7th Grade Math

In the 7th grade students focus on the following:

  1. Applying proportional relationships
In 7th grade students expand their concepts of ratios and proportions to solve more complex problems. Problems include percent problems in many contexts. They will also model proportional relationships graphically making connections between rate of change and slope of a graph.
  2. Extending operations with rational numbers
There is a focus on making a connection between fractions, decimals, and percents. Arithmetic operations are extended to all rational numbers including negative numbers. Students develop and solve equations in one variable by using operations with rational numbers.
  3. Using scale and basic geometric constructions
There is an extension from use of basic geometric measurement to three-dimensional shapes and the use of scale drawings. Students solve real-world problems relating to measurements of two- and three-dimensional figures.
  4. Extending basic statistical data to make inferences
There is an infasis on comparison between data sets using statistical measures. Random sampling is use to create data sets that can be analyzed with statistical reasoning.
